Current affairs briefing for 10th September, 2007

Hi friends,

I am heartened to note that many of you are taking the Quiz Contest seriously and am happy with the result so far.

We are improving day by day.  As I found that many of you are asking me to explain some basic concepts, I have decided to update the Glossary page and give active links to that page whenever I feel that the readers would be interested in knowing a little bit detail about that word or phrase.  Secondly, lot of bookmarking is being done in our posts also so that they can be referred to as and when the necessity arises.  Ofcourse, this will not materially alter anything for the readers except that you will see different colours and underlines on some words and phrases.  Hope this helps us all.

Here we go with our links for today:

Before I start off, don't miss today's joke on Funny Affairs; it is damn good.  (Follow the last link above).

Now back to serious business.

1.  You asked me to explain about oaths of office and why they are different.  I found it interesting enough to research a bit and give you an answer in today's Discover It.

2.  Look at the limits on mutual fund investments; abroad that is.

3.  What are STRIPS?  Why are they in the news?

4.  India's APEC dreams are off till at least 2010.

5.  IRDA reworks on solvency margins.

6.  Abhijit Sen committee likely to submit its report this month.

7.  How much do you know about the Man Booker Prize?

8.  An excellent article with suggestions on gas pricing.  Very good.

9.  Ever heard of singularity?  What is it?

10.  What is the hemline theory of stock markets?  People are really nuts; at times you know?

11.  UNCTAD's Trade and Development Report and about FTAs.

12.  Is my prophesy coming true?  Are you seeing a US recession on the horizon?  Some seem to.

13.  Sporting results worth noting.

14.  Venice film festival results are out.

That's all for today.  Happy reading.  Do drop a line if the changed format is useful.

Ramakrishna
