Current affairs briefing for 3rd August, 2007

Hi friends,

From today, I have something new for you.  To relax us all from the hectic preparation schedules and serious follow up of the developments.  We do need some laughter and some banter at times; don't we?

Take a look at a new blog that I started here.  It is called Time Pass:  http://funnyaffairs.blogspot.com/

Then we are back to serious business as usual and here go our links for today:

In today's briefing:

1.  I tried to explain the relationship between CDS and subprime mortgaging owes, as asked for by one of you.

2.  Ever heard of 'powder factor'?  Not power factor.  It is a mining lingo.

3.  Some stats about banking penetration and rise of rupee on IT houses.

4.  We are high on the list of PE firms.  What are PIPE deals anyway when it comes to investments by PE firms in India?  And don't miss an excellent article that appeared in today's ET about how PE firms are making a killing.

5.  We have VERY big plans on education front.  Take a look at what we want to accomplish by 2014.

6.  Jute gets government support -- it mandates jute packaging on all government related products.

7.  Did you ever offer jelly beans to a player?  What does this mean in cricket?  Not so much by way of language, as by way of behaviour.

8.  What do you understand by outsourced marketing research operations?  Can you make a guess?  Compare your guess with what I noted.

9.  India gets its own VIX.  Volatility Index.  Don't tell me you know nothing about it.  I have covered it in our blogs some time back.

10.  Whenever we speak to psychologists and psychiatrists, we need to be careful about what we mean by certain terms.  They make us look like fools.  Take a look at the difference between depression and anxiety.

That's all for today.  I hope you enjoy the new blog that I started.  But don't expect daily updates there.  I put things there only when people share them with me.  I already have quite a few for us to for some time.

Happy reading.

Ramakrishna
