Current affairs briefing for 21st August, 2007

Hi friends,

Change should be way of life; at least at times know?  I have tinkered with the Today's GK Quiz blog to make it more meaningful (hopefully) and help in reinforcing what we have been following diligently.  I have given a "Search Box" there, which will show search results only from our two main blogs viz., Discover It and Indian Current Affairs.  Read a bit about it in the About page that I posted there.  The quiz for today is at http://quizindia.blogspot.com/2007/08/21082007.html

Then one of you asked me in the shout-box to explain something about Overnight Index Swaps.  Can't usually miss out on finance related queries.  I am very quick there and so here it goes: http://discover-it.blogspot.com/2007/08/overnight-index-swap.html

Then I couldn't give up on the excellent debate that occurred in today's ET about fertilizer subsidy.  Take a look at it in our Discover It at http://discover-it.blogspot.com/2007/08/on-fertilizer-subsidy-policy.html

Here goes our current affairs link: http://funnyaffairs.blogspot.com/2007/08/newton-in-romantic-mood.html

In today's briefing:

1.  What does NRSMMS stand for?

2.  Something about the world's first ghost restaurant.

3.  PN1 reform/revamp developments.

4.  Subsidized housing loans for urban poor.

5.  Credit earmarking for SME segment.

6.  What do you know about the NIF?

7.  Where is Indian Vegetable Research Institute?

8.  How many banks does the RBI own?

9.  What is a credit blowout?

10.  What are commodity debentures?

11.  What is CSTO?

12.  Sadbhavana Award for Assamese hero.

Before I sign off, a little about Newton's laws of romance.  Take a look at it and enjoy...
