Before I go on with today's briefing, let me remind you that the quiz contest is waiting for all of you to join.  Registration is now open and will continue till September 8th.  The contest will be open online from September 8th September 15th.  The winner will be announced by September 16th or 17th to coincide with our one year of blogging.

In today's briefing:

1.  Something worthy of note and pondering over, about the attack on Taslima Nusreen.

2.  Government is coming out with a liberal measure to manage the forex inflows.

3.  Can foods be functional?  I thought they were meant to satisfy our hunger.  But then as we are becoming sophisticated by the day, functional foods also have made their appearance.

4.  US sub-prime story.  I never seem to get tired of noting about this.  If you follow the links that I have given in today's notes, it will keep you in good stead with this issue.

5.  Is there capital gains tax on agricultural land sale?  If so under what circumstances?

6.  Some detail about the reasonably good rainfall that we are having.

7.  Is there a housing shortage in India?  I am just kidding.  I know you know that there is shortage.  But by how much?

8.  A snippet about Anil Kumble's record.

9.  Something about credit card losses for the banks.

10.  How will Basel II hurt SSIs in India?  Interesting.  Take a look.  Very important.

That's all for now.  Happy reading.

Ramakrishna
