In today's briefing:

1.  Two good pieces appeared in today' ET.  One is on according MES to China.  The second is on global economic ramifications of the bailing out of the banks undertaking huge write-downs in the wake of the subprime crisis.  I noted them for you in Discover It.

2.  Ever heard of IIBI?  It is the first time ever that I learnt about it.  It is about to be wound up.

3.  CAG finds faults with the NREGS.  Look at the noted faults.

4.  A strong point of view in favour of subsidies from Asutosh Misra.  Very cogent arguments indeed.

5.  International potato meet came to an end in Kolkata.  The city is also in the news for not being able to put out the fires in one of its commercial complexes even after two days.

6.  A very good example of development that empowers locals.  I think it is examples like these that should be emulated to ensure national integration.  Be it the issues with the north east, J&K or naxalism.

That's it for today.  Happy reading.
