[Indian Current Affairs:694] Current affairs briefing for 8th December, 2008

Hi friends,

Hope you liked the two new additions to our blog viz., the Friends list and the new shoutbox.  I will be discontinuing the Followers gadget shortly.  And thereafter, rejig the layout a bit to accommodate these two new gadgets.

If you are still working with old browsers, it is time you upgraded to newer versions.  In addition if you are running any script blockers, do ensure that scripts are enabled from Indian Current Affairs.

I am instantly in love with these two gadgets, because they allow us to form a community of our own.  Besides, the shoutbox discussions remain accessible for us for future reference.  The shoutbox obviates the need for a dedicated forum, which I had been contemplating for quite sometime.

Here we go with our briefing for today:

1.  Pakistan appears to be under some real pressure to act against LeT.  How should India leverage this build up of pressure on Pakistan?

2.  Government comes out with a big fiscal stimulus package.  Some details and comments.

3.  Travel agents on war path against the airlines.

4.  An excellent editorial piece from today's ET.  Why is America's economy still relevant for us?

5.  Ever heard of Ashwani Windlass?  Not a lass; but a lad.  A brainy one at that.  Do read his piece.  You will get a global perspective on financial flows and what India should do in the current troubled times.

6.  A few bits on piracy problem.

7.  Indian expats are returning home.  Is it time that we should worry about our bread?

8.  A good piece on e-waste.

9.  Jeev Milkha Singh wins Nippon Series Cup.

That's it for today.  Happy reading.

[Indian Current Affairs:684] Current affairs briefing for 28th November, 2008

Hi friends,

The Mumbai trauma is still continuing as at the time of writing this.

Here is our post for today:  http://indiancurrentaffairs.blogspot.com/2008/11/28112008.html

In today's briefing:

1.  The size of Mumbai continues.  I think aloud on reforming our political system.

2.  And also point out to you a very good piece (critique) written by PR Ramesh.  I am in agreement with him.

3.  We all express our deep sympathies and sorrow for those bereaved families.  It is in times like these we are left to wonder whether we should stay still in our sorrow, grieving over the dead.  As doing so would perfectly fulfil the expectations of the terrorists, I decided to continue with our blogging.  Not taking a break.  To hell with the terrorists, they can't stop us from learning.

4.  The incident in Mumbai is going to affect a spike in terrorism related insurance claims.  Some figures in this connection.

5.  Government is considering giving a boost to the housing sector by giving some kind of an interest subvention.

6.  Know about Effie awards?  Ofcourse, this year their sound bites are lost in the din that is going on in Mumbai.

7.  We take a detour in language lessons to know about Ninjas, Black Swans and Fat tails.  What are they?

8.  Obituary: VP Singh.  Don't ask me who is this guy.

That's it for today.  Happy reading.
