[Indian Current Affairs:836] Current affairs briefing for 14th July, 2009

Hi friends,

In today's briefing:

1.  Whenever we see some shocking incident, we witness some usual reactions from the government, the politicians and the society at large.  Sometime or the other you would have experienced people trying to make a point which, they feel is seemingly different from the ordinary reactions.  We take a look at the commentary that appeared in today's article on DMRC disaster.

2.  If you are asked to criticize the budget, can you reel out four meaningful points?  Don't look at it from the perspective of a politician. The points have to be well thought out.  We note four such points from an article today.

3.  The Debt Management Office appears to be taking shape.  Notice the conflict of interest that is present in the current system of managing government debt?

4.  India aims to develop a microprocessor of its own.  Laudable.  Results may be slow; but it is worth the effort.

5.  Sonia Sotomayor.  Who is she?  Why in the news?

6.  Look at the marriage hunting fad that is gripping Japan.  It is called konkatsu.

7.  Some research findings on obesity and inheritance.

8.  Mark Webber wins his maiden Grand Prix.

9.  Language lessons: viaduct, dressed to the nines, balmy, willy-nilly, carry the can.

That's it for today.  Happy reading.
