[Indian Current Affairs:765] Current affairs briefing for 9th March, 2009

Hi friends,

In today's briefing:

1.  Take a look at the manifestos of two of the political parties in my home state.  Andhra Pradesh.  Pray that you will be showered with equally good manifestos from parties in your states.  We also take note of an interesting snippet on conduct of elections way back in the 1950s.

2.  MTM losses on forex contracts are posing a big problem right now.  What is the problem about?  Explain.

3.  What is the impossible trinity?  Why should we care now?

4.  What are the reasons for not importing the global economic doom and gloom to our country?  Can you give a couple of reasons?  Check your answer with Aditya Puri's.

5.  What are 'managed futures'?

6.  What is 'backwardation'?

7.  What is zero-based budgeting?  Why is it gaining currency again?

8.  An excellent commentary on the current state of global turmoil.  From Sudeshna Sen.

9.  Ever heard of a Colony Collapse Disorder?  Whom does it affect?

10.  Language lessons: cockle.

That's it for today.  Happy reading.
